Exam anxiety

An irrational fear of failing exams affects people of all ages. This is a much bigger problem for the growing number of mature students seeking to catch up on qualifications they did not obtain during their youth, and those seeking a career change.

How Hypnosis Can Help

  • Relieve anxiety
  • Reduce stress
  • Encourage relaxation
  • Overcome excessive worry
  • Improve concentration
  • Improve memory
  • Improve time management
  • Build confidence
  • Achieve goals

Techniques Used

A range of techniques is used to treat exam anxiety. Methods depend on the nature of the fear. Younger clients often benefit from suggestions to spend enough time preparing for the exam. Reframing the exam location to be a ‘home’ situation is effective in making you feel calm, relaxed, and confident when it’s time to take the exam.

Typical Duration of Therapy

The key to success here is an early start. Ideally, the first session should take place six months before the exam. This gives ample opportunity to use all the benefits of hypnosis in the preparation (e.g. relaxation, improved memory recall, better time management, goal achievement and a calm approach to the exam itself).

Four sessions, along with the use of the provided recording are usually sufficient.
